1.2 The month in plain English
August was a strong month, with sessions up 14.5% month on month to 4,665 and up 30.5% year on year. Enquiries climbed to 110 (up 23.6% on July), driven largely by Book Appointment submissions rising 51.7% to 44 and Boiler Quote requests up 29.2% to 31, though Phone Link Clicks slipped slightly to 35. Conversion rate improved to 2.4%, still down 20.5% on last August, but the underlying direction this month is clearly upward.
1.3 Key insights
Enquiries surge across the boardEnquiries reached 110 this month, up 23.6% on July, with Book Appointment submissions up 51.7% to 44 and Boiler Quote requests up 29.2% to 31. Both forms are also well ahead of last August (up 46.7% and 55.0% respectively), showing the growth is broad-based rather than a one-off spike in a single channel.
Phone enquiries losing groundPhone Link Clicks fell 37.5% year on year to 35, and were essentially flat month on month (down 2.8%) despite sessions growing strongly. As form-based enquiries pull further ahead, phone is becoming a smaller share of how visitors choose to get in touch.
Average session duration recovering slowlyAverage session duration rose 13.9% month on month to 1m 02s, but remains 86.7% below last August's figure. Worth watching whether this is a genuine engagement shift or a change in how duration is being tracked, given the scale of the year-on-year gap.
2. Traffic by Channel
Where August 2026's traffic came from, and how each channel's engagement pattern looked.

Referral traffic engages far deeperReferral sessions averaged 907.9 seconds and 6.04 pages per session with a bounce rate of just 39.1%, easily the best engagement of any channel this month despite only 46 sessions. It is a small volume but the visitors who arrive this way are clearly the most invested.
Direct traffic bounces hardestDirect is by far the largest channel at 2,873 sessions but has the weakest engagement of the major channels, with a 78.3% bounce rate and under one page per session (0.94). Organic Search, at less than half the volume (1,569 sessions), converts more of its visits into a second page view (1.21 per session).
3. Website Engagement & Content

Homepage dominates but bounces hardThe homepage led all landing pages with 862 sessions, but 81.1% of those visitors bounced, on par with or worse than several lower-traffic pages. By contrast, '(not set)' pulled 552 sessions with a notably lower 42.8% bounce rate, suggesting stronger engagement from whatever traffic sits behind that untagged entry.
F2 fault page shows bot-like signatureThe '/ideal-boiler-f2-fault-local-heating-engineers-near-you/' page recorded 61 sessions with an average duration of just 3.7 seconds and a 96.7% bounce rate, a combination that points to bot or automated tracking traffic rather than genuine visitor engagement with the content.
3.2 New vs Returning
91% of August 2026's sessions were new visitors.
3.3 Devices
| Device | Sessions | YoY | Bounce Rate | Avg. Duration |
| Desktop | 2,904 | ↑ 52.6% | 83.7% | 1m 05s |
| Mobile | 1,700 | ↑ 5.1% | 74.0% | 58s |
| Tablet | 63 | ↑ 21.2% | 81.0% | 39s |
Mobile beats desktop on bounce rateDesktop drives the most volume at 2,904 sessions and the longest average duration (66.0 seconds), but also the highest bounce rate at 83.7%. Mobile, with 1,700 sessions, bounces less often (74.0%) despite shorter visits, suggesting mobile visitors are finding what they need more efficiently.

5.3 Category movers
Bathroom installation sessions collapseBathroom Installation sessions fell 66.7% month on month, from 141 to 47, the sharpest drop of any category this month. There is no obvious seasonal driver visible in the numbers alone, so this is worth checking against any changes to that page or its supporting campaigns.
Boiler installation rebounds sharplyBoiler Installation sessions jumped 56.3% month on month, from 119 to 186, the largest increase of any category. Coming into cooler autumn months, this looks like the start of seasonal demand building ahead of winter.

If any page shows near-0s duration with 100% bounce despite a meaningful session count, that is very likely bot/crawler traffic, not real visitors - check device + referrer breakdown for that specific page before trusting its rank (see README.md, this pattern has recurred).
6.2 Top and bottom performers
Both top 3 and bottom 3 are drawn from within the Top 20 table above, not from all location pages site-wide.
1. /boiler-service-london/45 sessions this month but a 91.1% bounce rate against just 37.2 seconds average duration, suggesting visitors are checking pricing or contact details rather than reading the page in depth.
2. /plumbing-london/29 sessions with 58.5 seconds average duration and an 82.8% bounce rate, a moderate engagement level typical of a location page used mainly to confirm service area coverage.
3. /new-bathroom-installation-london/Best engagement of the top performers: 28 sessions with 132.9 seconds average duration and a comparatively low 67.9% bounce rate, suggesting visitors are actually reading the bathroom installation content.
1. /lambeth-plumbing-heating-services/Only 6 sessions this month, with an average duration of just 3.2 seconds against an 83.3% bounce rate, indicating negligible real engagement with this Lambeth page.
2. /wandsworth-plumbing-heating-services/Also just 6 sessions, but average duration of 85.3 seconds is far higher than other low-volume location pages, hinting at a small number of genuinely engaged visitors despite the 83.3% bounce rate.
3. /clapham-plumbing-heating-services/7 sessions with an average duration of only 2.7 seconds and an 85.7% bounce rate, the weakest engagement of any location page covered this month.

Homepage drives a quarter of phone clicksThe homepage generated 9 of 36 Phone Link Click sessions, a quarter of the total, with the remainder spread thinly across pages like /contact/ (4) and several boiler service and repair pages contributing 1-2 each. No single service page is driving meaningful call volume on its own.
9. Insights & Key Takeaways
Growth Insights
Book Appointment enquiries hit 44 this month, up 51.7% on July and up 46.7% year on year, the strongest single enquiry movement in the data.
Boiler Quote requests reached 31, up 55.0% year on year, showing sustained demand for that specific enquiry type beyond just a monthly bounce.
Sessions grew 30.5% year on year to 4,665, with Direct remaining the largest channel by volume, indicating the underlying audience base has expanded rather than just shifted between channels.
10 new blog posts were published this month, with three of the resulting articles already appearing in the YTD leaderboard's top three, showing recent content is finding an audience quickly rather than taking months to gain traction.
Opportunities
GSC impressions of 290,128 against 1,749 clicks imply a click-through rate under 1%, leaving considerable headroom to improve titles and meta descriptions on high-impression pages before spending on acquisition elsewhere.
Air Conditioning sessions are just 77 this month against General Plumbing's 561, despite the quietest air conditioners blog post independently pulling 637 YTD sessions, suggesting an opportunity to link that content more directly into the air conditioning service pages.
Phone Link Click sessions of 35 lag well behind Book Appointment (44) and are down 37.5% year on year, pointing to an opportunity to make click-to-call more prominent on pages that currently drive form submissions instead.
Direct traffic accounts for 2,873 of 4,665 sessions (61.6%) but has the highest bounce rate among major channels at 78.3%, suggesting an opportunity to improve homepage and landing page messaging for this large but under-engaged segment.
Watch Points
Conversion rate sits at 2.4%, still down 20.5% on last August despite sessions growing 30.5% over the same period, meaning the site is converting a smaller share of a larger audience than it did a year ago.
Average session duration of 1m 02s remains 86.7% below last August, a gap wide enough to warrant checking whether this reflects a genuine behaviour change or a tracking or tagging issue.
Phone Link Click sessions dipped slightly month on month (down 2.8% to 35) even as every other headline enquiry metric grew, making phone the one enquiry channel not sharing in this month's momentum.
GSC impressions fell to 290,128 from 307,115 the prior month, even though clicks rose to 1,749, indicating visibility may be narrowing even as the pages that do show are performing better.
